Some on the right who are pro-gun and who defend the 2nd Amendment as if it were God's 11th Commandment are becoming unhinged even at the idea of discussing stiffer gun control laws in America.

In a video posted to YouTube and Facebook on Wednesday, Tactical Response CEO James Yeager went ballistic over reports that the president could take executive action with minor gun control measures after the mass shooting of 20 school children in Connecticut last month.
After the Drudge Report likened Obama to Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin on Wednesday, pro-gun conservatives expressed outrage over the idea that the White House could act without Congress.
Vice President Biden said Wednesday that the White House could use "executive orders" to deal with gun control, as he kicked off a round of meetings aimed at finding ways to curb gun violence. The vice president met Wednesday with gun-safety and victims groups, saying he is "determined" to take "urgent action" to address gun violence. "This is not an exercise in photo opportunities or just getting to ask you all what your opinions are. We are vitally interested in what you have to say," Biden said.
The White House has sought to avoid prejudging what Biden's recommendations would be. But the vice president hinted Wednesday that executive action -- action by the president in which Congress would not have a say -- would indeed be involved. "There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken," Biden said, adding "we haven't decided what that is yet." He also said separate legislative action would be "required." Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, after the meeting affirmed that administration officials "talked about ... their willingness to use executive action where that's appropriate."The U.S. as noted in an earlier post has an alarming rate of Sexual Assault and Rape . Some 1.3 million American women are the victims of sexual assault or rape which puts it in the top ten with other nations with high rates of sexual assault.
One could say this is another incidence in which the USA is in fact exceptional but not in a good way.
And now we are informed that the US military is also 'exceptional' in the number of sexual assaults committed on female soldiers by their male counterparts . The problem of 'sexual assault ' in the armed forces is widespread and affects all ranks and parts of the military and occurs at American military bases not just overseas but also at those bases within the USA.
And even the best military training colleges also have a serious problem with sexual assault of female cadets and students.
The most disturbing part of this story is the dishonorable response by the Chain of Command and the Pentagon and the judicial and policing arm of the US military in which they see their role as covering up these incidents in order to defend the reputation of the perpetrator especially if the perpetrator is an officer and protect those who refused to act in any way shape or form to help the victim . The other major goal is of course to do all they can to bury these incidents in order to protect the honor of the US military itself. So the honor of a particular member of the military and the honor and PR of the military outweighs any injury mental or physical of a female victim of sexual assault.

"Not only was I astounded by the numbers, but when I started talking to the women and men who had experienced this, I was just so devastated by their stories," says the film's Academy Award-nominated director, Kirby Dick. "These are women and men who are very idealistic, they joined the military because they wanted to serve their country, they were incredible soldiers and then, when they were assaulted, they had the courage to come forward — even though many people advised them not to," Dick says.
---- Rape has become an epidemic in US military while the US Military, Pentagon, The Chain Of Command and the DOJ and White House only promise the minimal amount of change. They see it as a non-issue or as just another Public Relations issue .
But what can we expect from leaders in a militarized gun-happy Machismo war mongering nation in which violence is the norm. And it is easy to surmise that after all these years of women in the U.S. military there are those at the top on down in the Military chain of command who don't think women should be amongst the fighting forces and believe that these women by insisting on joining the military as equals to their male counterparts are just asking for trouble. Some think that maybe after they realize that Sexual Assault is commonplace in US military these women would take the hint and either not join in the first place or get out of the military since they are not wanted and are merely tolerated .
Conservative pundits discuss ad nauseum that women do not belong in the military and that it is inevitable that men in the military would take advantage of these women. They believe the issue of sexual assault would end once women left the military. It doesn't even occur to them that these men who are called America's Heroes should also be expected to act like decent human beings to follow a stricter moral code .
.
So whether American male soldiers are raping the enemy's women in Iraq or Afghanistan etc. or their so-called female comrades is all the same to many Americans. Of course most Americans and the US mainstream Media are not willing to accept the facts on this issue and accept how widespread sexual assault is in the military . They prefer not to know about or think about something so unpleasant and like Fox News their recourse is to just deny the seriousness and the magnitude of the problem. They prefer to believe that when such cases which they believe to be few occur the military does the right thing and prosecutes the offenders.
But as mentioned before if soldiers are given the freedom to abuse prisoners or to abuse, beat, torture, rape and murder innocent civilians just to let off some steam or to have these egregious acts to be compared to what goes on a college fraternity then it is hypocritical to expect them to behave otherwise when it comes to their female comrades.
Either by design or accident the consequences are that these men recognize no limits on their behavior and so act in the most dishonorable fashion possible knowing there will be no negative consequences for them.
Rape in the military is another one of those issues which if President Obama were so inclined Obama as Commander in Chief could surely do something about. Obama should take the lead pronouncing that all rapes and or sexual assaults will no longer be tolerated in the military and those persons whatever their rank in the US military committing such acts will have to suffer serious consequences and not just a month in the brig as it were.
In parts of the US one can be imprisoned for 7 years or more for having one joint of marijuana yet across the US and its military rape or sexual assault has no negative consequences,
