Texas Gov. Rick Perry's Christian Nationalists' Prayer Rally & Michele Bachmann "Queen of Rage" (Newsweek)

"McCarthy -- though not anticommunism -- was only stopped when a Republican establishment lawyer stood up to him in front of the U.S. Senate and asked him whether he no longer had any decency. Will any in the Republican establishment play this role today or are they too allied to the Tea Party's goals?"

and from David Barton of radical right " Wall Builders " who supports Governor Rick Perry of Texas .

Barton: No disrespect to our Native American friends, but this is where you hang a bloody scalp over the gallery rail. You hang these four Republican scalps over the Senate rail and every other Republican senator looks up and sees those scalps and says, ‘my gosh, I’ll be hanging up there beside them if I don’t stay with this pro-family stuff.’ And that’s exactly what has to happen.

The Religious Right in the United States should be taken as a serious threat to American democracy and its tradition of moving forward to a more tolerant, pluralistic society in which all Americans are seen as equal in the eyes of God. The founding Fathers of America did not say we believe that all Christian Evangelical Men are created or born equal but rather all men even Muslims, Catholics, Hindus , Buddhists or whatever faith or no faith at all.
The Founding Fathers did not say that the only real Americans are descended from white Europeans
as Lou Dobbs or Pat Buchanan or Michael Savage or Ann Coulter or even the twisted Michelle Bachmann the Queen Of Rage according to Newsweek or the clueless Bill O'Reilly or Michelle Malkin (Queen of the Internment camps)or the neo-Nazi Ann Randian IslamophobePam Geller are always suggesting sometimes subtly other times blatantly- ie The Muslims are Coming, The Browning of America, or referring to current Europe as Eurabia or warning about a fifth column of Commies or Hispanics planning the Reconquista of former Mexican lands or Black Americans out to take everything away from Whitey and so on- As Glenn Beck infamously said America is now "like the ..Planet of the Apes".

Texas Gov. Rick Perry's Prayer Rally Dwarfed by Back-to-School Event :  Information Clearing House News

By Democracy Now -Via Crooks & Liars & Information Clearing House.info

August 09, 2011 - - The Response was dwarfed in comparison to Houston’s first-ever, citywide back-to-school event held just seven miles away on Sunday. An estimated 100,000 people showed up to receive free backpacks, school supplies, uniforms, haircut vouchers, immunizations and fresh produce. The demand for the much-needed supplies was so great officials were forced to shut the event down at 10:00 a.m. and turn people away."

Texas Gov. Rick Perry Leads Controversial Prayer Rally

Texas Gov. Rick Perry led 30,000 people in prayer at a controversial rally in Houston this weekend titled "The Response: A Call to Prayer for a Nation in Crisis." The seven-hour gathering was designed by Perry and sponsored in part by the American Family Association, which opposes same-sex marriage and has condemned Muslims. The event, which drew 30,000 participants, was also backed by the International House of Prayer, whose evangelical founder argues Oprah Winfrey is a Satanic religious leader. Though billed as an apolitical day of prayer for a nation in crisis, the response was filled with calls for an end to abortion and gave Perry the opportunity to appeal to Christian conservatives. Perry is widely expected to soon announce his candidacy for U.S. president. Critics denounced the gathering for blurring the lines between church and state.

And here's an example of articles at Right Wing Watch  dealing with Governor Rick Perry and his connections with the Radical Religious Right leaders from Tony Perkins and  Lou Engle ( he's that guy that rocks back and forth while speaking or praying) & Jim Garlow to Cindy Jacobs, Loren Cunningham, David Barton , James Robison, Pastor John Hagee of CUFI(Christians United For Israel) -much of the same crew that other Tea Party Republicans such Michele Bachmann and Sara Palin call friends and supporters who inspire them.

And he has aligned himself with the likes of Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh -racist, Islamophobes, Homophobic , mean spirited and super wealthy .

" Perry Partners With Founder of Seven Mountains Dominionism For Prayer Rally " by Brian Tashman Right Wing Watch People For The American Way , July 25, 2011

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has tried to distance himself from the many extreme activists he is working with to put on The Response prayer rally, like the pastor who labeled Oprah Winfrey the harbinger of the Antichrist and the self-proclaimed ‘Apostle’ who called the Statue of Liberty a “demonic idol.” But Perry is open about his ties to advocates of Seven Mountains Dominionism, an ideology which demands that fundamentalist Christians take total control over all aspects of society. Dominionism advocate Jim Garlow is directing “National Church Mobilization” for The Response and other Dominionist endorsers of The Response include Cindy Jacobs and David Barton. Even the American Family Association, which is the official host of the prayer rally, now promotes Seven Mountains Dominionism.
Today, Perry appeared on Barton’s radio show WallBuildersLive and announced that he has received support from televangelist James Robison, who is leading the effort to rally the Religious Right around a Perry campaign for the presidency (though of course the rally is “apolitical”). Perry also mentioned that he is working with Loren Cunningham and his “prayer warriors” to mobilize support for The Response.

Governor Rick Perry is a booster of Hate Talk Radio & TV ie Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh , Sean Hannity and Fox News.

So before someone objects and argues people should not be judged by their associations but isn't that exactly what the Tea Party Republicans have been doing to President Obama and to liberals and progressives they have demonized from van Jones, Sotomayer, and the now defunct ACORN. Their argument has been that if you went to school or university and were friends with various people in your classes if they happen to be Commies, Pinkos , radicals then they conclude if you have not denounced these people loudly and publicly you must also be a radical of one sort or another.

But in the case of Rick Perry and other tea Party Republicans such as Michelle Bachmann they hang out and support right wing radicals including the Radical Religious Right and supposedly agree that America in their view has lost its way because it is controlled by a small leftist Secular Humanists anti-Christian elite . So they want America to cast this evil elite aside and make America into a Christian Nation a theocracy in which only Christians that is their type of real Christians who are anti-Abortion, anti-feminism anti-Gay anti-Immigrant anti-Muslim but are pro-rich pro-guns and consider those who are poor as stupid or as sinners who get what they deserve or just plain lazy .

By making such Media stars Honorary Texans he appears to support their hate speech against Muslims, feminists, Gays , liberals, Hispanics, Blacks , immigrants and of course their on going hatred of liberals, progressives and President Obama. Is Perry also willing to buy into their insane conspiracy theories for instance the Birthers that Obama is not an American citizen , or that he is a Manchurian Communist candidate about to turn America into a copy of the former Soviet Union or as Beck paints Obama as being the Anti-Christ, or the New Hitler, or Stalin and that he has set up FEMA internment camps to be filled with those who oppose him and so forth.
These Tea Party right wing Media stars spew their hate and conspiracy theories and lies without shame or a sense of responsibility or accountability.

We may find much of what these characters pass off as serious political and social analyses as being as lacking in logic or reason but as we saw in the past week they in fact were able to get President Obama to play by their rules and accept their agenda on economics in America and this was not the first time nor the last. Even the Conservative New York Times blasted Obama for caving in to these seemingly irrational ideologues .
And with all their crazy talk they are now becoming the mainstream and any who oppose them are UnAmerican and Anti-Capitalism and anti-Christian .

And here's a bit about Rick Perry supporter David Barton of the radical right organization The Wall Builders talking about Republican senators who are too moderate and not true Republicans .

Barton: "Hang These Four Republican Scalps Over The Senate Rail" For Supporting Marriage Equality" by Brian Tashman ,Right Wing Watch at People For The American Way, August 9, 2011

Today on WallBuilders Live, David Barton and co-host Rick Green had the National Organization for Marriage’s Maggie Gallagher as a guest to discuss NOM’s efforts to defeat senators that voted for the marriage equality law in New York, especially the law’s four Republican supporters. Following Gallagher’s interview, Barton lauded NOM’s campaign and warned that unless those Republicans are defeated, “Ken Mehlman,” the former head of the Republican National Committee and Bush campaign chief who recently came out as gay, “and his kind [will] come in and start rewarding these guys for going against pro-family stuff.” Barton went on to say that “this is where you hang a bloody scalp over the gallery rail,” to intimidate other Republicans who consider supporting equal rights for gays and lesbians:

Barton: If you allow the Ken Mehlman kind of Republicans to come in, and Melhman’s the guy who ran the Republican National Convention, he’s the guy who came out, who’s openly homosexual, trained with Karl Rove and was an understudy to Karl, if you allow those guys to be able to facilitate the Republicans to turn on these issues and other squishy Republicans across the country will say, ‘hey I can take on these pro-family people,’ they’ll start doing the same thing. Then you’ll lose your opportunity to have at least one party that still has the ability to allow people to talk about biblical, moral issues. You just cannot let this happen. Here I sit in Texas, I’ll contribute to the campaign to take these guys out, I’ll send money from Texas to New York.
Green: It’s kind of like the Iowa deal, going after judges up there and the necessity to defeat them.

Barton: Hey, you think that didn’t scare a bunch of judges straight in other states? You bet it did. And I want to see pro-family guys scared straight that are squishy on this issue, and if we can’t take out these four Republicans and the Majority Leader in New York, we will have opened a huge door for Melhman and his kind to come in and start rewarding these guys for going against pro-family stuff, and you just can’t let that happen.

...Barton: No disrespect to our Native American friends, but this is where you hang a bloody scalp over the gallery rail. You hang these four Republican scalps over the Senate rail and every other Republican senator looks up and sees those scalps and says, ‘my gosh, I’ll be hanging up there beside them if I don’t stay with this pro-family stuff.’ And that’s exactly what has to happen.

6 Reasons the Tea Party Is More Dangerous Than McCarthyism The Tea Party rebellion brings together six major political and economic trends of the last 20 years that are distinct from the anticommunism powering the McCarthy age. by Abby Scher Truthout.org via alternet.org, August 4, 2011 |

The power of the Tea Partiers, who refused to raise the US government's debt ceiling this past week despite the pleading of Republican pundits and the powerful, echoes the 1950s when Sen. Joe McCarthy, Fighting Joe, went after those who thought themselves his masters.
... In the 1950s, McCarthy's core supporters in local Republican parties included old-line Republicans ...Today, in pockets across the country, the Tea Party Republicans are the newcomers who took over local parties...from already right-wing conservatives they sometimes deemed, wildly, as Communists, or at best RINOs (Republican in Name Only).
...Once analyzed in all its diversity, we can see the Tea Party rebellion as bringing together six major political and economic trends of the last 20 years that are distinct from the anticommunism powering the McCarthy age. The right-wing populism shown by Tea Partiers is only one response to diverse trends.
...Some of the rich are separating themselves from the rest of America. They no longer see themselves as part of a civic community and have been powering a (legal) tax strike for the last 30 years or more.

...A legitimation crisis. This is when the public loses faith in the government's ability to accomplish anything.

...The growing free-market ideology on the Christian right. Free-market Christianity pre-exists the Tea Party, of course. You see it in former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin. The Heritage Foundation and the Christian right have been building ideology together for the past 15 years and it is bearing fruit, particularly since Glenn Beck popularized it.

.... Corporations outsource jobs and show little loyalty to their employees.

...The disintegration of party institutions because of big money, makes parties minimally responsive to local conditions.
Bureaucratization, the flip side of the flexible economy. ...Despite all of our social and political challenges, the Tea Party, like the anticommunists of the McCarthy age, sound a one-note solution: cut government. The government itself is the problem.

As mentioned Rick Perry is also connected to IHOP The International House of Prayer (Note: Not Pancakes) instead this is fast food for the soul I guess-its mission to train up an army for Jesus .

IHOP uses similar tactics to what are referred to pejoratively  as Cults -spending hours days weeks in prayer with a group of peers -rocking back and forth like Lou Engle of The Call -they speak in tongues, weep, have visions and epiphanies and are told that all other religions and those phony liberal Christians are actively working for Satan-(sounds alot like radical Muslims or Jim Jones of the Peoples Temple- "Kool-Aid anyone ".

"IHOP: Preparing Thousands of Students For the End of the World" by Kyle Mantyla at Right Wing Watch (People For The American Way) on December 6, 2010

We've written about the International House of Prayer a few times before, noting that it is the center of what amounts to a 24/7 Call-type rally where prayer and music and worship are underway, literally, at all times.

We knew that IHOP was founded and is overseen by Mike Bickle, and that Lou Engle has close ties to both Bickle and the institution he started, but we didn't realize until reading this profile in Charisma was just how large the organization had become and that it was expanding at an astonishing pace:

As regimented as that structure may sound to those who thrive on spontaneous worship and prayer, it’s integral to what happens in the prayer room—which, in turn, is the heart of everything IHOP is and does. The ministry includes 1,000 full-time staff and 1,000 full-time students at the university, IHOPU, yet each person’s role, function and purpose at IHOP begins entirely in the prayer room, where adoring Jesus is blended with rending the heavens on behalf of everything from abortion to Israel to revival on college campuses.

...

Such a prayer-saturated climate undoubtedly factored into the student “awakening” that erupted out of a 9 a.m. Bible class last November and continued first as nightly, then weekend meetings through early October. The move of the Holy Spirit drew thousands, many of whom reported physical and emotional healings. Broadcast globally on God TV, the awakening not only introduced IHOPU to a new audience, but also played a part in a surge of incoming students that includes those from abroad. This fall the university began accepting overseas applications for the first time, and leaders say they have more than 5,000 international students waiting to enroll.

Bickle has landed upon teaching historic premillennialism with the added dimension of a victorious church walking in New Testament power, purity and unity.

For all Bickle’s passion to unlock in others the revelation of a loving God, he is equally as zealous to stir up a sense of immediacy and understanding among those who disregard the Bible’s specific, copious directions for the end times, which he personally believes will be seen by a generation already born.

"...Somewhere we’ve got to get intentional about getting somebody understanding it so that in the future they’ll be ready to train the kids who are currently 10 and 20. Who I’m aiming for is my children and their children—and even their children.”

...That long-term generational target is also one of the driving forces behind IHOP’s recently expanded vision to combine 24/7 prayers for justice with 24/7 works of justice until Christ’s return. Of the 75 departments that make up IHOP, more than three-fourths are dedicated to action outside the prayer room—everything from orphan care to crisis response to inner-city ministry to training marketplace leaders. This is in addition to a thriving worship label, music school, conference ministry, media institute, Israel initiative, children’s and high school ministries, and an ever-increasing list of other ministries making their mark.
