Islamophobic Anti-Islam Propaganda Film "Obsession" By Ultraright "Clarion Fund"

****UPDATED: 12:45 PM & again at 6:50 PM ,Oct. 2, 2010.***

Question of the day: Are there Mooslooms (Muslims) hiding in your closet or under your bed ???

"The United Nations just continues to spiral further and further down into the abyss of irrelevancy," laments Matt Barber, director of cultural affairs at Liberty Counsel. "Their radical, leftist, post-modern secular humanist, globalist agenda is just as clear as it has ever been." Matt Berber of Far Right wing Liberty Counsel commenting on UN intention to end discrimination against Gays in any and all countries.

Radical Islam's arsenal is diverse and dangerous. Terrorism is only one of the tactics used by radicals. New tactics pop up everyday. Some are more subtle such as the use of textbooks. Others are outright violent such as terrorizing those who embrace freedom of speech. From Film Obsession Radical Islam's War Against The West.
In 2008 48 days before the US election Clarion Fund sent out 28 Million free copies of the DVD of the film Obsession-the DVD were placed inside local newspapers using the 2008 voters list. Further they refused to disclose where their funding came from.
They claimed if those names were released those people would become targets for Radical Islamic Jihadists. They also claim that as a non-profit organization with no political or religious ties they do not have to reveal the names of their contributors.

But the film produced, promoted and distributed by the Ultra-right organization the Clarion Fund is a vile piece of propaganda to spread fear, suspicion and hate for all Muslims.

But it wasn't just the Clarion Fund that promoted this film but was also promoted , endorsed and then shown on Fox News channel.
Fox News in 2006 claimed that Radical Islam was and is the most important issue of our time.
So in part Fox News showing this video at that time is to promote support of the Bush administration and the War on Terror and the attack on the rights of all Americans and especially Muslim Americans as being necessary.
Fox News as usual was in the business of manufacturing even more fear about Islam to distract the American public from issues of Bush's failed policy in Iraq and that Iraq had not become a secure, peaceful democracy but rather was a Killing Field as US Troops fought so-called insurgents while Shia and Sunni Muslims were involved in a sectarian war.

The film then offers an explanation or excuse about why conditions have not improved in Iraq by blaming radical Muslims and not the on-going errors, missteps and blunders made by the US forces and the Bush administration in Iraq. So the controversy over human rights violations by US troops and the Abu Ghraib, Gitmo torture scandal and the rendition program and the imprisoning of tens of thousands of Iraqi citizens many of whom have committed no crime yet are incarcerated indefinitely under harsh inhumane conditions.

The film being distributed in 2008 just before the Presidential election is seen as being anti-Obama and the Democrats and pro-McCain and the Republicans as an attack on all Islam and not just the extremists.

The film also suggests that in America there is a stealth Jihad conspiracy taking place. ( Is one of the aims of these Jihadists is to get Barack Obama elected and by implication claiming Obama is soft on Terrorism or even sympathetic and besides the Right wing media had been asking about Obama's citizenship and whether he was a secret Muslim / The Meccan Candidate???

The picture is chilling. We are at a crucial juncture. We can continue in this way, hoping for change. But we must know that by doing so, we risk losing the freedoms for which we have fought so hard. Clarion Fund:

"Tentacles of terrorism are reaching out to every corner of the world" British home secretary

" All these areas which we see as separate wars ...Iraq ,Palestine, Israel, Afghanistan they (the Jihadists) see these wars as fronts in a global Jihad "Caroline Glick

"It is not just a clash of civilizations but rather it is a declaration of war of radical Islam against Western Civilization and Judeo-christian values " Nonie Darwish

Islamophobes such as Wallid Shoebat, Nonie Darwish ,Brigitte Gabriel, Daniel Pipes etc. are featured as experts on Islam but who have also been exposed as frauds who are using Islamophobia to sell their books and to help promote their lecture tours .

The film also persist in the lie that Muslim moderates have not spoken out against the Jihadists and terrorists. As John L. Esposito points out in his recent book The Future of Islam pub. 2010(pp. 29-33)that Muslims in America and around the globe have spoken out again and again against the Jihadists but their statements are ignored by the Mainstream Media . Partly because such statements don't make exiting news events and on the other hand such statements don't fit with the current meme that Islam is basically an evil anti-Western religion from the time of Muhammad to the present.

We also get comparisons between Islam and the Nazis that Jihad means struggle but so does Hitler's Mein Kampf -MY Struggle.

And we get what is now a current theme that the Mufti of Jerusalem worked with the Nazis in WWII and therefore all Muslims according to the Islamophobes logic all Muslims are fiercely anti-Semitic and anti-democracy and anti-human rights who want to establish a global Islamic Totalitarian government.

But Fox News and others in the media and members of the American religious right characterize Islam as the religion of the Anti-Christ or The Devil while they characterize America as God's Chosen Nation which must destroy all anti-Christian religions .
Fox News Deception over documentary.

Fear Mongering Fox News:The Threat of Radical Islam (Pt. 1 of 6)
So here's Fox News promoting and showing the film Obsession in 2006 two years before the Clarion controversy in 2008.
So how is it that a Fox News anchor brings up the issue of censorship and freedom of speech several years later.

Part of the answer is that Fox News is shilling for the Clarion Fund and other far right anti-Muslim organizations.

Fox in 2008 act as if this were a newly released shocking expose on Islam.

The other issue is that the free DVD were sent out a few weeks before the 2008 election hoping for some pay off at the ballot boxes - especially since they were trying to defeat Barack Obama who Fox News argues is a shady character, not a Real American with sympathy for Islam and that he might be a "Secret Muslim"

judasprice | November 18, 2006

This is a special Fox News Network dedicated to the film "Obsession:Radical Islam's War against the West".

Anyway In part 2 Fox anchor implies that the governments in the West are playing down how urgent and alarming
We are told Muslims have no respect for human life that the best death is as a Martyr

The US tells its soldiers that dying in the cause of Freedom and Capitalism and Judeo-Christian values is an honor.
It is we are told to die in battle in order to defend or possibly entertain the wealthy members in our society who also are permitted to make as much profit as possible by being War Profiteers ie Haliburton, X/E Services aka Blackwater and Kellogg, Brown and Root and other multinationals.

The Iraq war made those with wealth even wealthier by over charging for their services to the military in Iraq and for building public utilities such as water and sewage treatment plants etc. even though the service was substandard.
And Fox News supports the idea that only Muslims teach their kids that death is not that bad don't Christians believe that death for a "True Believer" means entrance into Paradise .

Fox News:The Threat of Radical Islam (Pt. 2 of 6)

In 2008 The Clarion Fund an American non-profit anti-Muslim organization refused to disclose where their funding was coming from.
The Clarion Fund in 2008 according to this report was responsible for sending out for free a few million DVDs of the anti-Muslim Propaganda documentary Obsession Radical Islam's War Against the West. which was billed as a new shocking expose on Islam.
The Media tried to find who was connected with the group and where they got their funding.
When the Religious Right & Uberconservative organizations refuse to say who's bankrolling them they refuse and claim that's Okay
This is since the anti-Muslim crowd got all upset when Park51 developer refuse to disclose details about funding

In the film most of the so-called experts are pundits and writers who's claim to fame is attacking Islam and making stuff up as they go along.
These are Islamophobic propagandist some are supposedly ex-Muslims from the Middle East or scholars who's specialty is Middle East, Arab and Islam .

Exposing Obsession - Radical Islam's War Against the West

islamophobia | September 16, 2008

The Clarion Fund is a shadowy group distributing a 60-minute DVD, titled Obsession: Radical Islams War Against the West.

From Clarion's website:

About Clarion

CLARION FUND, Inc. is a non-profit organization* that aims to educate Americans about issues of national security. The organization focuses primarily on the urgent and growing threat of Radical Islam. To that end, Clarion produces and distributes documentary films and facilitates online education and outreach to help Americans better understand the real dangers posed by radical Islam while exposing a side of the story that is often overlooked or misrepresented by the media.

In 2006, Clarion released Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West, an award-winning documentary about the global threat of “a peaceful religion hijacked by extremists.” The organization’s newest documentary, The Third Jihad: Radical Islam’s Vision for America, focuses on the growth of Radical Islam in America and the risk it poses to western freedoms and American society as we know it.

*Founded in 2006, Clarion is a multi-cultural, non-partisan, non-political organization with Christian, Muslim and Jewish staff-members and supporters.

The Clarion directors claim the documentaries they make are made for educational purposes.. But they and the Fox News Bobble-heads make no distinction for instance between education, information , propaganda and selling a product in this case the Product is how hate filled Islam is. Education means considering issues in context and adding new information and insight into the perplexity of an issues as opposed to seeing things in black and white .

Understanding Radical Islam

Radical Islam is not merely an extreme version of Islam. It is a cultural-social ideology dominating all aspects of life. And like many violent totalitarian movements, its primary objective is to dominate all those within its reach and suppress all other ideologies, movements and beliefs in its path.

In short, Radical Islam is dedicated to the conquest of the world, by any means possible.

Radical Islam draws on widely accepted Islamic religious philosophy and customs. However the movement also draws heavily on dangerous ideas that negate basic human rights and freedoms of expression.

Not all Muslims are radical, and not all Muslims are politically motivated. In fact, most aren’t. However, when Muslims adopt a politically motivated, radical ideology, the whole world is at risk.

Radical Islam's arsenal is diverse and dangerous. Terrorism is only one of the tactics used by radicals. New tactics pop up everyday. Some are more subtle such as the use of textbooks. Others are outright violent such as terrorizing those who embrace freedom of speech.

The picture is chilling. We are at a crucial juncture. We can continue in this way, hoping for change. But we must know that by doing so, we risk losing the freedoms for which we have fought so hard.

Or, we can get involved and stop Radical Islam's march on our civilization. We urge you to inform yourselves, speak up and get active.

Community Challenges Clarion Fund Video Oct. 6, 2008

and on FOX News they stress that there is two sides to the story that the film is objective and merely portrays the reality of Islam . Fox makes it into a free speech issue. But the point of critics is that the film is biased from beginning to end against Islam while it promotes fear and suspicion of all Muslims.
The film seems to cast a wide net such that their conclusion is all Muslims are taking part in violent Jihads. It claims all Muslims are violent .

***Notes and related articles on Anti-Islamic /Islamophobes who appear in the film "Obsession"

Daniel pipes and others repeat the lie that all Muslims celebrated when they heard about the 9/11 attacks. Most of the Muslim world actually responded with horror at such an act and expressed their sympathy to those killed in the attack. Iran for instance was one of the first countries to offer not just sympathy but also help in tracking down the perpetrators.

Daniel Pipes: Policy and Politics at Jews on First
Statements on Islam made by Pipes cross the line into outright racism and exhibit an attitude of extreme paranoia. He described Muslim immigrants as "brown-skinned peoples cooking strange foods and not exactly maintaining Germanic standards of hygiene." Read an analysis here by the Political Research Associates.
In a 2007 response to a planned terrorist attack on Fort Dix, Pipes commented: "Immigrants seeking refuge in the West must be grilled for their attitudes toward our civilization, our religion and politics. Whether it be Somali refugees in the United Kingdom, Algerian ones in France, or Balkan ones in the United States (remember the Salt Lake City shooter in February, as well as four of the current six accused terrorists [involved in the Fort Dix plot]), individuals given the privilege and benefits of a new life then with some regularity turn around and attack their adopted fellow citizens. This unacceptable pattern has to be scrutinized to prevent future such atrocities."

Pipes has shown a deep distrust of Muslims and has made a career out of battling "radical Islam." Pipes is an "anti-Arab propagandist," claims The Nations' Christine McNeil.

After President George W. Bush nominated Pipes to the board of the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) in 2003, a congressional filibuster occurred when representatives expressed disgust at the Bush Administration's decision to align itself with such a radical and intolerant figure. "Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) spoke at length about how offended he was, as a child of immigrants from Europe of the Catholic faith, by Pipes' anti-Muslim commentary. Senator Harkin said, 'Some people call [Pipes] a scholar ... but this is not the kind of person you want on the USIP.' He added, 'My state has the very first mosque ever built in the United States … in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Muslims are a vibrant part of our diverse community.' " Read about the stalled nomination here, in the Baltimore Chronicle.

The uproar and publicity caused by the filibuster led the Bush administration to distance itself from Pipes' incendiary remarks on Islam and immigrants. "Mr. Bush disagrees with Mr. Pipes about whether Islam is a peaceful religion," said Whitehouse spokesman Ari Fleischer.

Pipes continues to serve on the board of Middle East Forum. He is a columnist for the New York Post and Jerusalem Post. He regularly shares his opinions on his blog, where his articles appear in over thirty languages.

Who is behind Relentless, Obsession and The Third Jihad?, at ikhwanophobia July 4, 2010

The American Muslim
The venom created by the films “Relentless”, and “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War With the West” has been slowly working its way into the hearts and minds of people across the country for a couple of years. Now the same group that brought us these atrocities is coming out with another film “The Third Jihad”. These films are only part of what Bob Crane has called a Tsunami of Islamophobia that seems to be rushing in ever higher waves towards the Muslim community in America. These films are verbal and visual terrorism.

28 million copies of a DVD of the film “Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West” have been distributed free of cost in newspapers across the country. The film was first released a few years ago and has been shown around the country. I wrote about my impressions and concerns when I viewed the film in 2007 and again in early 2008 when “Fitna” another such film was released. Except for David Horowitz’ use of the film as the centerpiece of his Islamo Fascism Awareness weeks for the last couple of years it has mostly been shown by local community venues and on campuses and sponsored primarily by Republican and Jewish groups. It is also sold on the internet.

Now, a DVD of this film has been bundled inside more than 70 newspapers and magazines and delivered nationwide to subscribers. Surprisingly even The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The World Jewish Digest accepted this “advertizing” insert. “There is no greater threat than radical Islam,” said Gregory Ross, spokesman for the Clarion Fund, a New-York based nonprofit organization that is paying newspapers to distribute the DVD. “It needs to be pushed to the forefront of the political discussion.” (Controversial film on Islam delivered nationwide, Yonat Shimron) The newspapers accepted this insert as paid advertizing but it was not labeled as such. I am certain that many people receiving the DVD think that this is the view of the paper delivering it to their doorstep.

Copies of the DVD were distributed free at the DNC, and at the RNC by the recently formed group watch obsession.org headed by Tom Trento. Earlier this year, the Florida Attorney General required employees to watch this video.
The Republican Jewish Coalition has also distributed free copies of the film in promotional mailings to U.S. rabbis and other Jewish mailing lists. The stars of the film have lectured at U.S. Military colleges, and the U.S. Navy uses the film.

Brigitte Gabriel

A Case Study in Sincere Hyocrisy :Brigitte Gabriel at Loonwatch

Brigitte Gabriel, 'Culture Warrior' at Jews on First

As a fervent proponent of the "clash of civilizations," Gabriel portrays Arabs and Palestinians as hateful and barbaric, while the West and Israel are held up as the epitome of developed culture and democracy. "The difference, my friends, between Israel and the Arabic world is the difference between civilization and barbarism. It's the difference between goodness and evil [applause] ... and this is what we're witnessing in the Arabic world -- they have no soul! They are dead set on killing and destruction," Gabriel stated at a Christians United for Israel event in 2007.

Gabriel roots her belief in a clash of civilizations in her traumatic childhood. The experience of being terrorized by Muslim fighters in Lebanon serves as her public justification as well as her motivation for advocating a modern-day crusade against radical Islam. Her rhetoric portrays Muslims as a monolithic force that seeks to undermine Western civilization. When challenged on this point by the New York Times, Gabrielle responded: "The moderate Muslims, at this point, are truly irrelevant."

Within the United States, Gabrielle portrays the threat from Islam in the context of a "culture war" that seeks to overtake American culture and values. In the same New York Times interview, she lashes out at the University of Michigan for installing public footbaths for Muslims to wash before prayers. "This is the way they are taking over the West. They are doing it culturally, inch by inch. They don't need to fire one bullet. Look what is happening in Europe. Do we want to become like 'Eurabia'?"

Gabriel questions the patriotism of Muslim Americans and portrays Islam as an evil and destructive force. "America and the West are doomed to failure in this war [on terror] unless they stand up and identify the real enemy: Islam. ... If you want to understand the nature of the enemy we face, visualize a tapestry of snakes. They slither and they hiss, and they would eat each other alive, but they will unite in a hideous mass to achieve their common goal of imposing Islam on the world. This is the ugly face of the enemy we are fighting," she famously said at the 2006 Intelligence Summit.

Gabriel is listed as a speaker with the Hasbara Fellowships. Hasbara Fellowships are run by Aish Hatorah International, an organization aligned with the Israeli Likud Party, which has close ties to the producers of "Obsession."

Nonie Darwish

Nonie Darwish Caught in a Pool of Lies by Mooneye at Loonwatch.com February 182010 by Mooneye

We are going to have an explosive breakdown of the clownish Nonie Darwish, another charlatan akin to Wafa Sultan who is milking the Islamophobic cash cow for all it’s worth. Jim Holstun, a professor at SUNY Buffalo wrote this great piece in 2008 that lays bear Nonie’s excessive Islamophobia, as well as her contradictions and lies.

Nonie Darwish and the al-Bureij Massacre

StandWithUs is a Zionist advocacy group in Los Angeles. It concentrates on US colleges and universities, offering fellowships, book donations, lectures, training and hands-on activism. I first heard about the group in 2005, after its Executive Director, Roz Rothstein, wrote my university’s president, provost and Arts and Sciences dean to warn them that I was teaching courses in Palestinian culture. She passed along some hysterical libels from anonymous community members (not my students), gave a detailed critique of my syllabuses, encouraged them to investigate me and two other colleagues, and helpfully suggested a few questions they might want to ask.

StandWithUs manages an impressive stable of Zionist speakers, including several who are Arabs, Muslims, or ex-Muslims: Brigitte Gabriel, Ishmael Khaldi, Walid Shoebat, Khaled Abu Toameh, and Nonie Darwish. Darwish, born an Egyptian Muslim, now an American Evangelical Christian, is one of the most energetic. She manages the website Arabs for Israel and has appeared on FOX News, on the website Frontpage Magazine, and in the film Obsession: Radical Islam’s War Against the West. She is also the author of Now They Call Me Infidel: Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel, and the War on Terror. Penguin Books publishes it under its Sentinel imprint — a special line of conservative titles. Since her book’s publication in 2006, Darwish has toured extensively, speaking primarily at colleges and universities.

Now They Call Me Infidel has blurbs from all the usual crew: Daniel Pipes, David Horowitz, Robert Spencer, Bat Ye’Or, former Senator Rick Santorum, Representative Tom “Nuke Mecca” Tancredo, and General Paul Vallely, who advocates the final ethnic cleansing of all Palestinian citizens of Israel. In the book itself, Darwish interweaves stories of her Egyptian girlhood with potted accounts of female genital mutilation, arranged marriages, polygamy, veiling, domestic abuse, honor killings, sharia law, jihad, censorship, hate-oriented education, the rejection of modernity, the cult of martyrdom, Islamic imperialism, and the pathological, groundless hatred of Israel.

In her interviews and in her book, she insists that she is not anti-Arab or anti-Islamic, and even suggests from time to time that she is still a Muslim. Then she pivots nimbly and attacks “the Arab mind,” “the seething Arab street,” and “the Muslim world,” with its “culture of jihad,” “culture of death,” and “culture of envy.” There are “no real distinctions between moderate or radical Muslims,” and no significant differences within or among Arab or Muslim cultures: for Darwish, Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s secular Arab nationalism was essentially jihadist. Darwish is allergic to social history: “I realized that the Arab-Israeli conflict is not a crisis over land, but a crisis of hate, lack of compassion, ingratitude, and insecurity.” Instead of history, scholarship, and footnotes, she gives us a watered-down version of Raphael Patai’s The Arab Mind: a dictionary of Islamophobic commonplaces underwritten by the authority of an ex-Muslim native informant: I was there — I know.

Darwish’s portraits of Israel and of the US, to which she emigrated in 1978, are diametrically opposite but equally fatuous: Israeli Jews are tolerant, pragmatic, and peace-loving. From 1967 to 1982, they made the Sinai bloom. Americans are honest, charitable, industrious, self-sufficient, intellectually curious, and benevolent toward the foreign nations to whom they bring liberty. They err only in their excess of credulous goodness: because of “the simplicity of American values such as truthfulness,” they risk falling prey to duplicitous jihadist immigrants and dangerous professors, who “indoctrinate American young people with the radical Muslim agenda.”

Her outsider’s view of America complements her insider’s view of the Arab and Muslim world, for imperial states want not only other people’s land and labor, but their love. Here, we may compare Now They Call Me Infidel not only to recent anti-Islamic conversion narratives like Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s Infidel (her conversion was to neoconservative atheism and the American Enterprise Institute), but to earlier works in the genre. In her 1964 Editions Gallimard autobiography, O mes soeurs musulmanes, pleurez! (O My Muslim Sisters, Weep!), Zoubeida Bittari recounts her escape from Algerian Muslim patriarchy to French Christian bliss as a domestic servant to a Pied-Noir family; Nonie Darwish finds friends, family, and faith in southern California, including a Republican women’s group, an American husband, and Christian fellowship in Pastor Dudley Rutherford’s Shepherd of the Hills Church. As Bittari helped French colons feel better about their ungratefully rebuffed civilizing mission in Algeria, so Darwish helps Americans feel better about the long and bumpy road to global democratization.

Nonie Darwish on MSNBC: “Loonwatch are Imams” by Garibaldi at Loonwatch.com Aug. 9, 2010

Nonie Darwish was on MSNBC along with CAIR-New York representative Zead Ramadan (hat tip: JustAFan). Darwish was her usual self, blathering about how she “is against this frenzy of Mosque building,” trying to legitimate her putrid and irrational stance by putting up her bona fides as a “former Muslim,” you know the usual spiel we are used to from clowns like Walid Shoebat and company who parlay their too often made-up-out-of-whole-clothe ex-Muslim stories into big bucks and easy living.

However, this time she was stopped dead in her tracks, and her soft tone quickly turned shrill when Ramadan pointed out to her that she is featured on “Loonwatch.com for fibbing.” Yes, Darwish, you are featured on our site for being “Caught in a pool of lies,” an article written by Professor Jim Holstun, and trust me we are not done exposing you, we haven’t even scratched the surface.

In response Darwish was slightly incomprehensible, and cried “those people at Loonwatch are Imams.”

Nonie Darwish. The native informant and Islamophobia at The Arab Desk,Oct. 31,2007

A recent weeklong campaign undertaken by anti-Arab, anti-Muslim racist David Horowitz in university campuses across the US designed to intimidate and terrorize students and professors who do not share Mr. Horowitz views when it comes to Israel. Horowitz created an organization called Campus Watch group against what he calls Islamo-facisim. Islamofacists are anyone, student or a professor, Muslim or Christian, Arab or not whom does not share Mr. Horowitz nationalist support for Israel or dare to criticize its aggressive policies.

Aided by equally militant supporters, Horowitz is engaging in slandering college professors and defame their characters, and creating a list of those who simply, unlike him, do not hold Israel above criticism, or above the law, or put Israeli interests ahead of American interests.
Among those recruited to participate in Mr. Horowitz hatred campaign is an Arab and a former Muslim woman, named Nonie Darwish. Darwish is an Egyptian who is going around the country defending Israel’s right to occupy Arab lands and kill Arabs. She is also speaking against Arab and Muslim Americans accusing them of supporting terrorism.

Nonie Darwish Perfects Double Speak Sheila Musaji at The American Muslim.org

Today, Nonie Darwish published an article titled Muslim Groups Attack FMU with Double-Speak on The Iconoclast site responding to an article that I had published back in November of 2009. Don’t know what took her so long to get around to this, but it probably has to do with her most recent mailing of her phony freedom pledge to attempt to find some way to connect herself to the Cordoba House controversy. She was a participant in the SIOA protest against the Cordoba House.

Darwish quotes part of one paragraph from my article Former Muslims United Freedom Pledge Against Punishment for Apostasy a “Red Herring”. Darwish writes: “On Nov. 19, 2009 Sheila Musaji, editor of The American Muslim, wrote an article attacking Former Muslims United (FMU). Ms. Musaji stated “This FMU pledge is simply another attempt to create propaganda. Thus, she [Darwish] planted the idea that American Muslims have not taken a position against punishments for apostasy and attempted to make it seem as if only former Muslims can stand for what is right, and frankly to attempt to increase the visibility of the FMU at the expense of the Muslim community. This is shameful behavior (although typical of members of this group who go beyond denouncing Islamic radicalism to denouncing all of Islam) and is simply another example of attempting to marginalize the Muslim community.” (underlining mine)

Of course, she does not give her readers the title of my article, or even a link to the original article. And, even with the snippets of the article that she includes in her tirade she doesn’t include the links. This is the first ploy that is often used by those with axe to grind - make sure your readers only have access to your point of view. To top it off she doesn’t even get the quote right in an obvious attempt to insert herself into my article. Darwish is the Director of FMU, but the Freedom Pledge is signed by 5 Board Members on behalf of the organization. I mention the FMU, but not Darwish or any other particular member of that group. Check out the underlined portion of her “quote” and the same section underlined in the original below. Also notice that she is making a personal attack on me as a person, but her article title refers to “Muslim groups”. No Muslim groups are mentioned, just me, one elderly American Muslim woman who has published The American Muslim for over 20 years on a volunteer basis.

Caroline Glick

Caroline Glick's Jihad at Jews On First.org

Glick grew up in Chicago (in a neighborhood she now calls "anti-American"), received a bachelor's degree from Columbia University and a master's in public policy from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. She first moved to Israel in 1991 and returned in 2000. Glick is the deputy managing editor of the Jerusalem Post, where she writes two weekly columns. She served as assistant policy adviser to former Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu and is the Senior Fellow for Middle Eastern Affairs at Frank Gaffney's Center for Security Policy.

Glick has advocated unilateral bombings inside Iran and the killing of that country's nuclear scientists. Rejecting diplomacy, she has written: "Today, there is only one way to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Israel must bomb Iran's nuclear installations. ... All an Israeli air strike against Iran's nuclear facilities will do is set its nuclear program back for a couple of years."

In a separate interview, Glick stated: "Killing Iran's nuclear scientists will make it impossible for Iran to rebuild its nuclear weapons program for the foreseeable future." here.

Her comments on the presidential election and American left have likewise been incendiary. It is her opinion that the "Arab world" prefers Barak Obama to John McCain because "they view him as sympathetic to their war against Israel and their hostility towards the U.S. and the rest of the West. … Obama is a quintessential leftist who thinks that war can be wished away by blaming the U.S. for its enemies' hatred and malicious designs. This is the type of person who will push very hard not only for America to stand down from the war and ask the Iranians for forgiveness while enabling them to get the bomb, but will blame Israel for the Arab world's refusal to accept its right to exist."

In 2008, she wrote a column praising the controversial pastor John Hagee. In discussing the annual conference of AIPAC, the pro-Israel lobby, she noted the absence of Hagee as a speaker: "John Hagee … is not on the program. And this is a horrible thing. AIPAC's decision to shun Hagee says something terrible about the state of American Jewish politics today. Quite simply, Hagee has become a victim of liberal American Jewish leaders' decision to place their leftist political preferences above their concern for Israel's survival and for the well-being of American Jewry." In defending Hagee's history of disparaging statements about Islam, Judaism and Catholicism, she made comparisons to Obama's former pastor Jeremiah Wright and lashed out at supporters of a Palestinian state.

The Jerusalem Post Should Fire Caroline Glick for Making a Racist Video by Eileen Read at Huffington Post June 5, 2010

'We Will Slaughter the Jews,' goes a blatantly racist music video that has had nearly 700,000 views on YouTube.

Its title is, 'We Con the World,' sung to the tune of 'We are the World.'

However, the video's keffiyah (headscarf) wearing, knife-wielding 'Arabs' and other members of the 'Flotilla Choir' clearly aren't Turks or Gazans. They're Jewish Israelis singing "there's no people dying" about the Gaza humanitarian-aid flotilla, in which nine people were killed last Monday by Israeli commandos, and many others were shot. A 19-year-old American aboard was shot five times at close range.

The lyrics begin:

There comes a time when we need to make a show
For the world and CNN
There's no people dying so the best that we can do
Is create the greatest bluff of all

The press office of the Prime Minister of Israel sent this video around the world. Apparently inadvertently, according to spokesman Mark Regev. Regev notes nonetheless that ""I called my kids in to watch it because I thought it was funny. It's what Israelis feel."

Clearly not all Israelis, since thousands and thousands of them massed in Tel Aviv today to protest the mess their extreme right-wing government is making of their nation's image abroad.

"It was not intended for general release," said a statement from the press office. "The contents of the video in no way represent the official policy of either the Government Press Office or of the State of Israel."

On her blog, the deputy managing editor of the Jerusalem Post, Caroline Glick, claims credit for the video. I never take Glick-bylined pieces seriously because they're all the same, since she constantly talks about continuing the occupation of Palestine, trashes Obama (and she is from Chicago!) and is a favorite on the lowest-level of American right-wing tv, like the Laura Ingraham show.

But this is lower than I've ever seen someone go who carries a management title at a journalism organization. I'm ashamed to say that Glick and I are both Columbia alums. Even if she hates people of another race or religion and is allowed by her editors to poke fun at them in a tasteless and blatantly racist way, she should be fired for making fun of the dead.

Walid Shoebat
Walid Shoebat’s Claims – and the Evidence at Jews on First

Walid Shoebat, current a star on the conservative speaking circuit, makes his living by selling the same story that, in the movie, Chicago, earned Roxie Hart her freedom and fortune—that of the "reformed sinner." Shoebat claims to have once been a Palestinian Liberation Organization terrorist who "participated in acts of terrorism against Israel," and was imprisoned, "for incitement and violence against Israel.").

However, according to an investigative piece in the Jerusalem Post, there is no record of the terrorist attacks in which Shoebat claims to have participated. Members of his family expressed surprise when told of Shoebat's claims of growing up in a culture of violence and religious fundamentalism.

The timing of Shoebat’s alleged conversion to violent extremism raises further doubts about his story. His claim of being radicalized in the 1970s was examined by the New York Times, which concluded it was unlikely he "... could have been steeped in the violent religious ideology that only became prevalent in the late 1980s."

Shoebat’s organization, the Walid Shoebat Foundation, is not registered as a non-profit in Pennsylvania, as Shoebat claims.
All contributions are funneled to a company called Top Executive Media, which has a $500,000-per-year turnover.

Itamar Marcus' Lens on Anti-Semitism at Jews On First

Critics of Marcus point out that he places all blame on Palestinians and the Arab world for failing to make peace with Israel, while never examining Israeli culture or textbooks to find anti-Palestinian or anti-Arab biases.

Marcus has tried to link the number of references to Allah or the Quran in the Hamas charter to the organization's use of violence, but he appears to have no formal education in Islam, Arabic or any background in Arab culture.

Both in "Obsession" and at a Middle East Forum lunch in his honor, Marcus has aligned himself with arguments that Palestinian resistance to Israeli occupation shares similarities to Nazi Germany's plans to exterminate the Jews. Marcus argues that both the Nazis and Palestinians shift the blame for their anti-Semitism to their religious texts and God. More about Itmar Marcus and the Middle East Forum lunch here.

Marcus chooses not to discuss the very different geopolitical contexts in which anti-Semitism has emerged in Germany and the Middle East, and the anti-Israeli sentiment to which Palestinian youths, who grew up under an Israeli occupation, might be drawn.

Marcus has, to this date, not made any public statement about where he stands on "mutual recognition" of statehood between Israel and Palestine. In his writing, he refers to Palestinian territories as "(the Israeli) disputed territories of Judea and Samaria."

Even when problematic textbooks are altered, Marcus does not find them satisfactory. Akiva Eldar, a journalist with Ha'aretz, criticizes Marcus' stubborn refusal to acknowledge that progress has been made in removing anti-Semitic material from Palestinian textbooks. "The open calls for Israel's destruction found in the previous books are no longer present … references defining Jews and Israelis as 'treacherous' or 'the evil enemy,' common in the previous books, are likewise not present,' (writes Marcus). But this, to Marcus, is not enough. He complains that the new books 'continue to teach non-recognition of Israel,' and that the maps portray greater Palestine, with no boundaries separating the territories and Israel (just like the official textbooks and maps used by most Israeli institutions)."

Marcus lives in the United States as well as in the Israeli settlement of Efrat. He is published on the PMW website and in David Horowitz's FrontPageMag.com.

Itamar Marcus was a member of the Israeli delegation to the Tri-lateral [American, Israeli and Palestinian] Committee to Monitor Incitement, established under the Wye Accords.

and so it goes,
