Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism : Anti-Abortionist Guns Down Dr. Tiller

Dr. Tiller gunned down by Anti-Abortionists
Christian Fundamentalists Terrorism should be treated as such
Anti-Abortionists Randall Terry of Operation Rescue Shows Little Concern over the Murder of Dr. Tiller
Christian Fundamentalists overjoyed by the assassination of a person they merely see as a "Baby Killer"-who in their view is "Evil" & is therefore anti-God and has given himself over to the Powers of Darkness ie Satan.
Note Anti-Abortionist often compare abortion to the Holocaust which killed 6million Jews
The Abortion Holocaust they claim has resulted in the murder of 40 million Babies & so they it is worse than the crimes of the Nazis & Adolph Hitler
When average people who think of themselves as "True Believers " are bombarded with this Christian Fundamentalist' Propaganda on a daily basis is it any wonder that some of them are going to act & take the law into their own hands. The anti-Abortionist to a great extent are in fact fueling this type of anger & hatred which sooner or later results in acts of violence.

Antony and the Johnsons - Child of God

-torture war assassinations all approved by Christian Fundamentalists who believe Jesus would approve as well . Is this true .
If there are Christians who disagree with these fanatical Christian Fundamentalist why don't more of those Christians stand up and speak out .

Maybe if more rational Christians would speak out it might drown out the hysteria we are constantly subjected to in the media by these Christian Fundamentalist fanatics .

It seems it has to be said time & again that these Christian Fundamentalists do not just claim to have a different view of Christianity but rather argue that their view of Christianity is the only right view that any true believing Christian could have . They believe that Jesus is in favor of the War in Iraq and that torture is ok and that murdering an abortion doctor is merely doing God's work.

They ignore as I have said before Jesus' Sermon on the Mount or give it a rather distorted interpretation which fits in with their extremists views .

The leaders & spokespersons for the Christian Fundamentalist movement begin with a certain view of the world & of society & then comb the Biblical text to find passages which will support their views . Often the passages are taken out of context and they tend to ignore contradictions found within the Bible itself. But they claim that the Bible in its entirety is to be taken literally because the Bible is the Inerrant Word of God & therefore contains no real errors or contradictions. So called errors or contradictions they claim are merely a lack of understanding or insight on the part of those reading the Bible. On the one hand they will say that the New Testament supersedes the Old Testament on basic theology and yet when they need to support a particular view they will cherry-pick the Old or the New Testament to find Biblical support for their views or arguments.

These Christian Fundamentalists in the United States are no longer some small fringe group as they were in 1929 during the infamous Scopes Trial. They number at least 20 million . But what is more disturbing is that in the US they have managed to infiltrate the US military & other parts of the government forming a type of fifth-column which includes a significant number of powerful & influential people who are able to some extent to influence public policies & legislation. For instance if even a third or more of the military commanders that is high ranking officers who are Christian Fundamentalists who believe that part of America's mission is to either Christianize the world or to wipe out most of the non-Christians this will eventually have an effect on military policies ie torture, pre-emptive wars a lack of respect for other peoples cultures or religions.

At some point the US will reach a tipping point from which there will be no turning back. If you watch documentaries such as Jesus Camp one sees that whether its a camp for Christian Fundamentalists Children or a University such as Regent University or a military school- the spokespersons often say that their stated goal is to take back control of American society & all branches of government in the near future to make America in their view once again a Christian nation . By doing so they hope to promote Christian Fundamentalist' policies , laws & legislation.

To many on the Far Right and the Religious Right including Christian Fundamentalist at the moment they feel they are at some sort of significant cross-roads because they see the election of President Obama as a possible set-back or some sort of Divine sign which they are still trying to decipher or interpret.

" George Tiller Killed: Abortion Doctor Shot At Church" Huff Post May 31, 2009

WICHITA, Kansas -- Dr. George Tiller, a Kansas doctor whose clinic received national attention for performing late-term abortions, was shot to death as he entered his Wichita church on Sunday.

...Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortion, making him a favored target of anti-abortion protesters. He testified that he and his family have suffered years of harassment and threats. His clinic was the site of the 1991 "Summer of Mercy" protests marked by mass demonstrations and arrests. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and an abortion opponent shot him in both arms in 1993.

Tiller's clinic also provided group and individual counseling, as well as chaplain and funeral services for people who were grieving.

The anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, which runs a "Tiller Watch" feature on its website, released a statement condemning the shooting. "We are shocked at this morning's disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down. Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tiller's family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ."

Tiller remained prominent in the news in recent years, in part because of an investigation begun by former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline, an abortion opponent.

As noted Operation Rescue had hounded & persecuted Dr. Tiller for years & yet sent a message of condolence to Dr. Tiller's family. One would think that such a message from this group would possibly cause more pain for the family. One is struck by the insincerity & hypocrisy of on the part of Operation Rescue.
Also Note in their message of condolence they make sure they stick the knife in one more time by claiming " We pray for Mr. Tiller's family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ." which is a dig since the people at Operation Rescue & his murderer believe anyone who performs abortions or assists in one way or another in abortions in their view can not be called "real Christians " and are destined to suffer in Hell for all eternity. So are they saying the family would better understand what happened to Dr. Tiller if they themselves were or became real Christians for then they would know that his death is in fact an act of God as punishment for his sins.

Randall Terry, Operation Rescue Founder, Says He's More Concerned About Obama's Reaction Than Tiller's Murder at Huff Post , May 31, 2009

Randall Terry, the founder of anti-abortion group Operation Rescue who led protests against George Tiller's clinic in Wichita, Kansas in 1991, issued a statement about today's killing of the abortion doctor.

In his comments, Terry does not grieve for Tiller or denounce the murder but seems more concerned about President Obama's reaction and what it bodes for the pro-life movement.

"George Tiller was a mass-murderer. We grieve for him that he did not have time to properly prepare his soul to face God. I am more concerned that the Obama Administration will use Tiller's killing to intimidate pro-lifers into surrendering our most effective rhetoric and actions. Abortion is still murder. And we still must call abortion by its proper name; murder.

Those men and women who slaughter the unborn are murderers according to the Law of God. We must continue to expose them in our communities and peacefully protest them at their offices and homes, and yes, even their churches."

-----
The anti-Abortionists get their followers all riled up filling them with hate for anyone who is not an anti-abotionist & all those Godless Liberals who support the abortionist doctor- Then when one of their followers act on that hate & threaten doctors or even kill a doctor who performs abortion they back peddle claiming that's not what they wanted anyone to do. For such crimes people like Ann Coulter , Glenn beck, Limbaugh , Hannity , Michael Savage and the Anti-Abortion network Fox News are in part responsible. But they don't see it that way; what they see is a society which is immoral by allowing abortions. And if an abortion doctor gets threatened, is physically harmed or killed then they deserve it because it is God's Will.

Remember when Sarah Palin in one of her interviews was hard-pressed in deciding whether or not someone who kills an abortion doctor or blows up an abortion clinic is a "Domestic Terrorists". This is a typical view of many Evangelical Fundamentalists who condemn those they characterize as being Liberal & on the Left for their views and point to the harm they believe is being done by the views & public policies of these Godless Liberals & leftists.

In the current case what adds to the hypocrisy & is chilling is that the doctor was killed in his own Christian Church Though of course the members of Operation Rescue & their supporters on the Religious Right would argue that if the Church allowed an abortion doctor as a member then it is not their view a "real Christian Church" since they believe all "True Christians " are anti abortion.

The killing of Dr. George Tiller was not just a cold blooded murder it was a Hate Crime and an act of Domestic Terrorism and should be treated as such. Mary Mapes argues these points in her article. Her outrage is also based upon the fact she covered the protests against Dr. Tiller by Operation Rescue in 1991. So Dr. Tiller had been targeted by the anti-abortionists for some 18 years. So as she says she was not that surprised that an anti-abortionist had finally acted upon his beliefs & those of Operation Rescue and put those beliefs into action by murdering Dr. Tiller.

No Mercy by Mary Mapes at Huff Post May 31, 2009

I felt just sick today when I saw the bulletin about the murder of Dr. George Tiller.

Sicker still when I saw the "sympathy" letter issued by officials at Operation Rescue, the virulent anti-abortion organization that dogged this poor man for the past two decades. The statement said, "We pray for Mr. Tiller's family."

They had better say a few prayers for their own souls. They had better pray for forgiveness for relentlessly working to make this man a target.

Operation Rescue's Web site said the organization was "shocked" by the murder.

Well, I'm not.

This has been a long time coming, and no one has played a greater part in the run-up to the doctor's death than Operation Rescue. Their leaders -- and all of the group's enablers -- should be cowering in shame today.

I was in Wichita, Kansas in 1991 covering Operation Rescue's cruelly misnamed "Summer of Mercy," a six-week ordeal when thousands of anti-abortion protesters descended on Dr. George Tiller.

... Every night in the hotel that Operation Rescue designated as its home base, the organization sponsored a "worship service" that featured singing, prayer, sermonizing and a whole lotta snake oil.

Operation Rescue leader Randall Terry, an egotistical, self-aggrandizing super-nerd, commanded the room like a rock star. Women fainted and lay trembling on the ground when he entered to thundering applause and the screams of people who love Jesus so much they act like they're crazy.

The chemistry in the room was unlike anything I've been around, before or since.

In just a few weeks in Wichita, Operation Rescue forged an unholy alliance of sexually repressed super Christians, men who hate women and women who hate themselves and turned them into a supercharged army of bullies for Jesus.

These "rescuers" -- sweaty mobs of zombie-like true believers -- swarmed across the street in front of the clinic like angry ants. They crawled over the hot asphalt toward his office on their hands and knees. They collapsed onto the stairs, chained themselves to the fence, shrieked prayers and threats and bellowed the Biblical equivalent of evil spells at anyone who approached the place. They fell lifelessly to the ground, some of them swooning and crashing spectacularly to earth.

... After this country's seemingly endless assaults and murders of clinic doctors and staff, the explosions and fire bombings, the vandalism and harassment, it's clear that this violent behavior is not a natural outgrowth of religious belief or moral concerns.

This is not part of a disagreement over when life begins.

This is terrorism.

And if we believe this is terrorism, we need to act like it's terrorism.

No mercy.

---------------
and as Shannyn Moore writes that the murder of Dr. Tiller should be called what it is : "Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism". This was not some sort of random killing but was carried out as an assassination of someone hated by the Religious Right.

Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism by Shannyn Moore at Huff Post May 31, 2009

Christian Fundamentalist Terrorism.

It's shocking to write. But it's time to start calling it what it is.

When Jim D. Adkisson walked into the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church with 76 rounds and a shot-gun, he killed 2 people and was charged with murder. His motive was "he hated the liberal movement" and was upset with "liberals in general as well as gays." He should have been charged with terrorism.

...The right wing media hacks make targets of the left. The fundamentalist reverends blather their intolerance of other Americans. Their marriages are in jeopardy if the GLBT community can walk down an aisle. Their children are going to be molested if you have to rent to a same sex couple. Fear...fear...fear the queer.

Bill O'Reilly's hit piece on Dr. Tiller is a training tape for Christian Fundamentalist Terrorists. Never did he ask the woman interviewed how she, as a 13 year old, got pregnant, who was the father, or where her parents were when she underwent an abortion at Dr. Tiller's clinic. I'm sure O'Reilly's drivel will insist on personal accountability for the murderer. I'm sure he won't be in line for any "accountability" for calling the doctor "Tiller the baby-killer" or his clinic a "death mill."

Are anti-choice groups celebrating today? An abortion doctor is dead so women won't have unwanted pregnancies!

The "war on terror" needs to include domestic religious, fundamentalist terrorists.
Who is next?

and so it goes,
GORD.
